Farmland has long been acknowledged as being a breeding and feeding habitat for some of our rarest species of birds. And knowledge of the birds on your farm can help with your application for agri-environment funding. FWAG has been working with partner organisations for 40 years show that agricultural systems can be developed that meet our need for food without reducing the benefit of farming for bird life.
Information on potential sources of winter food for farmland birds is available on the FWAG leaflet below. You can also visit the British Trust for Ornithology to find out more about how to construct and erect a bird box for a wide variety of species.
