Put Up a Bat Box

There are 17 species of bats in the UK and all are protected from disturbance due to their rare or endangered status.  They feed solely on insects, some of which are pests, and eat large numbers mainly in flight at night.  Bats roost in the daytime, hidden away in crevices, and they hibernate during winter.  Farm buildings are important to bats for shelter and food.

The FWAG leaflet below gives you more information on how to provide food and roots for bats.  The Bat Conservation Trust has more information leaflets available, including advice on how to construct and erect your own bat box.
