by holding a BIG picnic on Leckhampton Hill

On Saturday 22 May over 300 partner organisations celebrated 2010 as being the "International Year of Biodiversity" by holding events all around the country.

Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group held their event on Leckhampton Hill, near Cheltenham.  The "Biodiversity In Gloucestershire" BIG picnic saw hundreds of visitors to the hill enjoy the fantastic spring sunshine as they listened to musicians, took part in face painting, sampled local perry and beer and joined in walks guided by biodiversity experts.

And the day was rounded off by a magnificent finale of several hot air balloons ascending into the evening sky.

The event was organised by Farm Conservation Adviser Jenny Phelps, assisted by her colleagues in Gloucestershire FWAG and supported by many partner organisations who work alongside FWAG to preserve the biodiversity of the local area.

FWAG Managing Director Andy Ormiston, who opened the event, said "The BIG picnic was a fantastic family event that raised the public's awareness of the biodiversity that is all around us and the need to preserve it for future generations."
