Pond Workshop

This day will look at basic pond ecology and construction techniques, we will show how new ponds can be successfully made and managed. Practical advice will include basic do's and don'ts of site selection, construction and planting, guidance on planning and legal considerations and pond management.

This site visit offers the opportunity to compare a variety of ponds ranging from newly created ponds to older restored ones.

  • The function of a pond and when is management necessary
  • Management for plants and animal species
  • Creating new ponds; what to consider
  • Problem pond plants; invasive non native species how and if they can be controlled 
  • Ponds and the law

Speakers on the day include Dr Pascale Nicolet, Senior Freshwater Ecologist for Pond Conservation and National Coordinator of the Million Ponds Project, John Colton of Kingcombe Aquacare, with Ama Chaney, Farm Conservation Adviser FWAG and Daniel Griffin from the Environment Agency will be on hand to answer any questions.By kind permission of Mr Brian Batten
